Insulation glazing for contemporary architecture

Energy-efficient construction with glass / Solar protection for all transmittance classifications

Duesseldorf/Lauenfoerde. Energy-efficient construction has been a major requirement for modern object architecture for a long time. At the same time, modern components must also meet ambitious aesthetic demands. At glasstec 2006, Interpane presented "ipasol", a façade glazing programme with solutions for practically any architectural concept. It covers all transmittance classifications, the appearances range from neutral to lightly tinted glazing, with low external reflection to highly reflecting façades. The thermal insulation glazing of the “iplus”-series enables energy-efficient construction, particularly for residential applications and renovations.

House builders aim at saving energy!

Optimised thermal insulation glazing thwarts exploding heating costs

These days, house builders and owners are focussing intensely on permanently reducing their energy costs. For new buildings and modernisations alike, a major factor in the energetic quality of a building is the right glazing. The new thermal insulation glazing “iplus E” fulfils all the demands on the energy efficiency of residential, business, and public buildings. With even further improved thermal insulation (Ug-value 1.1 W/K as per EN 673), passive energy gain and excellent colour neutrality it provides for a pleasant living and working environment in light rooms. Top of the line products such as “iplus 3C E” limit thermal transmittance down to 0.5 W/m²K. In addition to thermal insulation, the multifunctional glazing “iplus city E” also provides sound-proofing and increased burglary-resistance.

Radisson SAS, Frankfurt

Blue Heaven

Driving into downtown Frankfurt from the west, the travellers eye is caught by what appears to be a huge flying saucer sticking out of the ground. The latest figurehead of the Radisson SAS hotel group sits like a futuristic disc amidst the already modern downtown architecture. Behind a glass façade of 11,400 square metres are 428 4-star hotel rooms, protected from excessive solar radiation by Interpane’s ipasol blue 40/23.

Renzo Piano builds the “Weltstadthaus” in Cologne

16.11.05

Glass skin

Flowing, transparent, anatomical – this is how the “Weltstadthaus” designed by Renzo Piano fits into the corner of Antonsgasse and Schildergasse in Cologne city centre. With his modern design, the star architect pushes the “blob” style of architecture forwards. The organically formed building has a harmonizing effect on the pulsating shopping district. The idiosyncratic jacket of the building, made of glass and wood, is both architectural vision and technical challenge. In order to combine this extraordinary shape with a high degree of functionality, the planners developed an elaborate façade construction. Jacketed with ipasol natura 67/34 (Interpane) and supported on a skeleton of glue-laminated timber girders, the vitreous “blob” has been attracting shoppers since September 7th.

New: “ipasol shine 40/21” and “ipasol sky 50/26”

Fine tuning for energy efficiency
Low solar factor, effective thermal insulation and high selectivity are the characteristics of two new types of solar control glazing by the Interpane Group (“ipasol shine 40/21” and “ipasol sky 50/26”). Most of the solar heat stays outside (g-value of down to 22% as per EN 410). Both glasses also provide excellent thermal protection (Ug = 1.1 W/m²K as per EN 673). The fine tuned light and radiation values of the two new products improve the work and living environment and optimize the energy balance – in accordance with the European “Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)”. As of 2006 this directive also takes into account cooling and artificial light.
